Acura AKI AI Acute Kidney Injury Prediction Support Software Selected, Showcasing Taiwan’s Strength in AI-Powered Critical Care Applications

Under the strong promotion of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taiwan has actively adopted the international SMART on FHIR standard to accelerate the implementation of smart healthcare and medical AI applications, creating a new patient-centered digital healthcare ecosystem with cross-hospital interoperability.

With the core vision of “empowering healthcare professionals through innovative technology to deliver smarter medical care,” Huede Healthtech was selected in the 2026 “Taiwan 50 Outstanding SMART Apps” competition, organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Its solution, “Huede Acura AKI AI-Based Acute Kidney Injury Prediction Support Software,” was chosen and invited to participate in the SMART SUMMIT International Forum and Awards Ceremony, becoming one of Taiwan’s key representative companies advancing the standardization of smart healthcare and clinical AI applications.

From Clinical AI to an Integrated AI Service Platform for Smart Healthcare

According to Lee Hui-Ling, General Manager of Huede Healthtech, the future of smart healthcare lies not only in AI models themselves, but in their deep integration into clinical workflows, healthcare information systems, and frontline care settings—serving as essential support tools for medical teams.

The award-winning Acura AKI is an AI medical software designed for intensive care unit (ICU) settings, primarily providing clinical data analysis and decision support. The system has obtained a Class II medical device license from the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) under the Ministry of Health and Welfare. In addition to the “Acura AKI AI-Based Acute Kidney Injury Prediction Support Software,” Huede Healthtech’s current product portfolio also includes a Clinical Intelligent Care System (APTS), an AI platform for critical care applications, and an AI hand hygiene recognition system.

Lee Hui-Ling stated that Huede Healthtech’s mission is to “become a leading partner in smart innovation for critical care.” The company continues to invest in clinical AI for critical care, intelligent healthcare solutions, and the integration of healthcare information systems, while progressively building an AI service platform aligned with international standards.

Notably, in December 2025, Huede Healthtech was awarded the “Digital Service Capability Registration Certificate” by the Administration for Digital Industries under the Ministry of Digital Affairs. The certification covers AI technology services, AI-assisted diagnostics, and precision medicine applications, demonstrating the company’s technical capabilities and system integration strength in clinical AI and digital healthcare services, and earning official government recognition.

Kidney Care Becomes a Key Healthcare Issue in Taiwan

The “Taiwan 50 Outstanding SMART Apps” initiative focuses on representative smart healthcare applications across fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), clinical decision support (CDS), healthcare information integration, smart hospitals, and digital health. It is regarded as a key indicator of Taiwan’s next-generation electronic medical records and smart healthcare ecosystem.

Taiwan has long had one of the highest prevalence rates of kidney disease in the world. Care for chronic kidney disease and acute kidney injury (AKI) continues to be a major policy focus within Taiwan’s National Health Insurance system. According to data from the National Health Insurance Administration and other public healthcare sources, medical expenditures related to kidney diseases, including dialysis, have consistently ranked first among annual healthcare spending categories in Taiwan, highlighting both the importance of kidney care and its long-term burden on the healthcare system.

In recent years, the National Health Insurance Administration has also actively promoted policies such as pre-end-stage renal disease (Pre-ESRD) care programs, AKI care management, and digital healthcare applications. The Acura AKI AI-Based Acute Kidney Injury Prediction Support Software has thus become one of the representative SMART applications selected in this initiative.
